Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) Authorities established in 2002 to manage the National Health Service locally and provide a key link between the Department of Health and the NHS. They held all local NHS organizations (apart from NHS Foundation Trusts) to account for performance and were responsible for developing plans for improving health services in their local area. They were abolished in 2013 as part of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. Facilities owned by SHAs were transferred to NHS Property Services, and their public health functions to Public Health England. |
