Information and Consultation Directive European legislation (Council Directive 2002/14) that provides a framework for minimum standards of information and consultation at national level where 50 or more persons are employed in an undertaking. In the UK, the directive was implemented by the Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004. The Regulations apply only to undertakings employing at least 50 employees. The Regulations, which are enforced by the Central Arbitration Committee, call for the provision of an information and consultation procedure, either at the initiative of the employer or request of the employees. Agreements concluded prior to the coming into force of the Regulations (April 2005) are not not covered by special rules. |
