inhibition n. (in land law) An entry in the proprietorship register relating to registered land (see land registration) that prohibits the registration of any dealing with the land, such as a transfer or mortgage, for a specified time. Such entries were possible under the Land Registration Act 1925, but since the coming into force of the Land Registration Act 2002 (on 13 October 2003), no new inhibitions can be entered. Instead, a restriction will be entered in similar circumstances. |
