Mayor of London
The head of the Greater London Authority, elected every four years by the voters in London; the office was created under the Greater London Authority Act 1999. The responsibilities of the Mayor include the promotion of cultural, economic, and social development and improvement of the London environment by use of strategies to reduce air pollution and waste. Since 2002 directly elected mayors have been established in a further 23 areas of England.
