multiplier n. A number used to calculate damages for future loss or expenses. The multiplier is used to estimate the sum necessary to produce an annuity equivalent to the annual loss or expense for the expected lifetime of the person awarded damages. Multipliers are now found in the Ogden tables and HM Government establishes a standard notional rate upon which to base the calculation. |
