official receiver The person appointed by the court who acts in bankruptcy matters as interim receiver and manager of the estate of the debtor, presides at the first meeting of creditors, and takes part in the debtor’s public examination. In the compulsory winding-up of a company, he often becomes provisional liquidator when a winding-up order is made. The receiver is usually a civil servant in the Insolvency Service, an executive agency sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. |
