part-time worker Any worker whose hours are less than those of a full-time worker in the same employment (Part-time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000). Part-time workers are entitled to no less favourable treatment than full-time colleagues; however, this applies only where (a) there is a full-time worker on a similar contract and (b) the only reason for the less favourable treatment is that the worker is part-time. Employers have a defence if they can objectively justify the less favourable treatment on some other ground (Equality Act 2010; Matthews v Kent and Medway Towns Fire Authority [2006] UKHL 8. |
