Permanent Court of Arbitration A standing panel of jurists established in 1900 under the 1899 Hague Convention for the pacific settlement of disputes. Despite the name, it is neither permanent nor is it a court. Rather, it is a mechanism for promoting the creation of arbitration tribunals as required. Although resort to the Court is infrequent, it is by no means redundant: its facilities have been used, for example, by the Iran–United States Claims Tribunal, established in 1981. |
