procure vb. 1. To produce by endeavour (AG’s Reference (No 1 1975) [1975] QB 773). Procurement is one form of accessory liability in criminal law (see aid and abet; counsel). In order to be liable as an accessory for having procured an offence, it is necessary that the accessory’s conduct be causally related to the principal’s offence. Case: DPP v K and B [1997] 1 Cr App R 36. 2. Formerly, to induce someone to become a prostitute or to engage in sexual activity in various prohibited circumstances. The former offences of procurement have been replaced by new offences created under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. |
