Schengen Agreement
The agreement between most member states of the European Union to abolish internal border controls that came into force on 26 March 1995. The UK and the Republic of Ireland chose to opt out of the Agreement, and it has not yet been implemented by Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Cyprus. Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland are not signatories to the Agreement but participate in the Schengen Area. See also passport. |
