Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) A professional tribunal established under the Solicitors Act 1974 for hearing applications and complaints against solicitors. It has the power to strike the name of a solicitor off the roll and to restore the name of a solicitor previously struck off, suspend a solicitor from practice, and order the payment of a penalty. The members of the tribunal are practising solicitors of not less than ten years’ standing and some lay members. They are appointed by the Master of the Rolls. Appeals from decisions of the tribunal can be brought to the High Court of the Master of the Rolls. See also Solicitors Regulation Authority.
