careless and inconsiderate driving Driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place (Road Traffic Act 1988 s 3). This is a summary offence for which the maximum penalty is a fine at level 4 on the standard scale and it carries 3–9 penalty points under the totting-up system; disqualification is discretionary.
