Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) A document containing information about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs plus recommendations about how to reduce energy use and thus save money. EPCs are required whenever a building is built, sold, or let, with the exception of some low-energy industrial or agricultural sites, places of worship, holiday lets, some buildings due to be demolished, listed buildings, temporary buildings, and small stand-alone buildings (total floor space of less than 50 square metres). The certificates are produced by an accredited assessor; if a certificate is not provided when required, a fine may be imposed under the Energy Performance of Buildings (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2016. |
