Health and Safety Executive (HSE) A body responsible for furthering the general purposes of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, for example by giving advice and promoting research and training, and for enforcing the Act through such inspectorates as the Factories and Nuclear Installations Inspectorates. The HSE merged with its associated body, the Health and Safety Commission, on 1 April 2008. Following the merger, the former HSE board became the senior management team.
