interim payment An order under Part 25 of the Civil Procedure Rules for payment of a sum of money on account by a defendant of any damages, debt, or other sum of money (excluding costs) that the court may hold him liable to pay to the claimant. When such damages are claimed, it is necessary to show that the defendant has admitted liability; that the claimant has already obtained judgment for damages to be assessed; or that if the action proceeded to trial the claimant would obtain judgment for substantial damages.
