Prime Minister
The head of the UK government, who is appointed by the Crown to select and preside over the Cabinet and bears ultimate responsibility for the policy and machinery of government. The Prime Minister also advises the Crown on such matters as the creation of peerages and the making of senior appointments (e.g. the Ombudsman). Further key roles of the modern Prime Minister include overseeing the operation of the Civil Service. Since 2019 the Prime Minister has also been Minister for the Union, with a responsibility for ensuring that all government is acting on behalf of the entire United Kingdom.
