single-union agreement A collective agreement within a company or establishment that recognizes only one independent trade union for the purposes of collective bargaining. The selection of the union to be recognized for this purpose is frequently now based on the so-called beauty contest. This agreement does not restrict the rights of individual employees to belong to a union of their choice or not to belong to a union at all. However, their only access to collective bargaining would be through the single union. |
