n. A system whereby an employer deducts union membership fees from a member’s wages during the calculation of those wages and pays them over to the union. Such deductions are regulated by the Deregulation (Deduction from Pay of Union Subscriptions) Order 1998. These require that an employer must obtain the workers’ written authorization before making deductions; the authorization remains valid unless and until withdrawn. |
