citation n. 1. A document issued by the court on application of a person interested in a deceased person’s estate calling upon the party cited to show cause why a particular step should not be taken. This could be a citation to take out probate, to accept or refuse a grant, or to propound a will (i.e. prove that a will is valid). 2.
