houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) Buildings that contain two or more households who share certain facilities, such as a house split into bedsitting rooms with shared bathroom. Certain HMOs are subject to the Housing Authority licensing scheme introduced by the Housing Act 2004. HMOs that are required to be licensed but do not meet licensing standards may be made the subject of an interim management order or a final management order, whereby the Housing Authority assumes the role of the landlord. |
