kidnapping n. Carrying a person away, without his consent, by means of force, threats, or fraud. Kidnapping is a common-law offence that overlaps to some extent with the offences of child abduction and false imprisonment. A man may be guilty of kidnapping his wife and a parent may be guilty of kidnapping his or her child (R v D [1984] AC 778 (HL)). See also hostage. |
