Sentencing Code
In England and Wales, a consolidation of sentencing-procedure provisions made under the Sentencing Act 2020. The Code covers sentencing for both adults and under-18s and applies to all convictions made on or after 1 December 2020, irrespective of the date on which the offence was committed. It states general provisions relating to sentencing procedure as well as the different types of sentences available to the courts and various behaviour orders that can be imposed in addition to a sentence. The Act is a consolidating statute only and so makes no substantive changes to the law. It is intended that any future changes to sentencing law will be made by amending the Code. The Code does not replace sentencing provisions in the Road Traffic Acts or matters relating to confiscation of criminal assets. |
