vulnerable adult
An adult patient who has capacity to consent to medical treatment (see competent patient; incompetent patient) but who is nevertheless judged to be in need of protection, usually because of disability, learning difficulties, or old age (Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 s 59). The Department of Health and Social Care issues special guidelines to safeguard such patients from abuse or neglect. |
