all-ports warning system A system, operated by the police through the police national computer broadcast system, whereby details of a child at risk of abduction are circulated to immigration officers at ports and airports, who will then assist the police in trying to prevent that child from leaving the country. Before instituting a port alert the police must be convinced that the complaint is genuine and that the danger of removal is real and imminent. In the case of children aged 16 or 17 a court order is required. See child abduction. |
