DA notice Defence Advisory notice: a notice issued by the Defence, Press and Broadcasting Advisory Committee requesting editors and broadcasters not to publish certain information regarded as prejudicial to national security. The notice, which is not legally enforceable, may well cover material that is not restricted from publication under the Official Secrets Acts. In June 2013, for example, a DA notice was issued asking the media to desist from publishing any articles about UK involvement in the US PRISM programme, an electronic surveillance and data-gathering operation. Until 1993 DA notices were known as D notices. |
