| 释义 | 扣押 The forceable taking possession of a ship or aircraft by a non-owner. Lawful seizure may be made by the revenue or sanitary officers of a country in the exercise of their powers. The Airport Authority has statutory power to detain an aircraft where its operator has failed to pay the necessary charges. In prize law seizure can be made to obtain a sentence of condemnation and the confiscation of a ship: The Flad Oyen (1799) 1 Ch Rob 135, 165 ER 124. The mere oral announcement of a seizure is not enough: there must be some act of dominion leaving no doubt in the mind of a reasonable observer that seizure has occurred.
