Fixed interest rate |
An interest rate which is held constant for a given period of time payable under a fixed interest security such as government or corporate bonds, preference shares and debentures, the investment of which does not change. The fixed interest rate is calculated against the face value of the security, not against its market value. However, not all debt securities have fixed interest rates, for fixed interest securities tend to be considered as poor investments at times of high inflation when their values do not adjust to changes in the price level. Thus, some debt securities are issued with variable interest or index-linked interest over their lives. |
