1. A postponement of execution of a sentence or the deferring of a judgment after legal proceedings have been concluded. 2. A temporary extinguishment in a person’s right or title in something. 3. Education - A disciplinary sanction by which a student is forbidden to attend an educational institution for a given period of time. If in the opinion of the Permanent Secretary for Education and Manpower the behaviour of any pupil is undesirable or improper or contrary to the good of the school or the other pupils he may, in his absolute discretion, require the supervisor and principal to expel such pupil from the school or to suspend him for such time and under such conditions as the Permanent Secretary may specify: Education Regulations (Cap 279A) reg 96(1). This does not prejudice the right of a principal or supervisor to expel or suspend a pupil from the school: reg 96(2). Employment - The temporary removal of an employee from the duties of the employee’s position. An employer may without notice or payment in lieu suspend from employment any employee for a period not exceeding 14 days as a disciplinary measure for any reason for which the employer could have terminated the contract of employment on the grounds upon which summary dismissal is justified (Employment Ordinance (Cap 57) s 11(1)(a); Keung Ah-pan v Hong Kong Macau Water Proof Engineering Co Ltd (LDLA 77/94, unreported); pending a decision by the employer as to whether or not he will exercise his right to terminate the contract of employment on the ground of the employee’s misconduct which justify summary dismissal (s 11(1)(b)); or pending the outcome of any criminal proceedings against the employee arising out of or connected with his employment (s 11(1)(c)).

僱傭工作 - 暫時將僱員由該僱員的職位免職。如僱主有充分理由支持即時革職即終止僱傭合約,而以暫停僱用作為紀律處分《僱傭條例》(第57章)第11(1)(a)條;Keung Ah-pan v Hong Kong Macau Water Proof Engineering Co Ltd (租務上訴,94年第77號,未經彙報);僱主對是否根據有關僱員有充分理由被即時革職的不當行為而行使權利終止僱傭合約尚未作出決定(第11(1)(b)條);或僱員因其僱傭引起或與其僱傭有關的事宜遭刑事檢控,而該刑事法律程序尚未有結果(第11(1)(c)條),則僱主可無須給予通知或代通知金而暫停僱用任何僱員一段為期不超過14天的期間。 n.
