The Protocol (1979) amending the International Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules of Law relating to Bills of Lading of 25 August 1924, as amended by the Protocol of 23 February 1968 (Visby Rules) (Amended Hague Rules 1979) apply to international sale and carriage of goods. Under the Carriage of Goods by Sea Ordinance, the Hague-Visby Rules have the force of law in Hong Kong: Carriage of Goods by Sea Ordinance (Cap 462) s 3(1). The sale may be based on Cost, insurance and freight (CIF) or Free on board (FOB) terms or on cost and freight or free alongside terms.
