A document which is prepared by the shipper containing details of a particular consignment of goods to be carried from one place to another such as the freight to be charged and the place of destination. It is indorsed by the carrier as proof of receipt of the goods into his care. A consignment note is similar to a bill of lading but is not a document of title.
