The combination of all exertions of individuals whether physical or intellectual, directed towards the production of goods and services, although it is sometimes limited to that which tests a person’s muscles and sinews: Yarmouth v France (1887) 19 QBD 647 (DC). The European Court of Human Rights has held that the term ‘labour’ is not restricted to manual work, but includes professional work too.
