单词 Bridge finance
1. A temporary loan advanced by a bank or other lending body to tide a customer over a period of difficulty, for example while buying one property and selling another when there is a mismatch in timing. 2. Large temporary loans made by investment banking firms to clients involved in corporate takeovers. In the United States, such bridging loans are often used as an alternative to the sometimes lengthy process of raising money by selling high-yield, high-risk junk bonds which may be sold to repay the bridge loans. However, a slump in the market may result in a ‘huge bridge’, a bridge loan that the borrower cannot refinance. Most bridge loans prove to be highly profitable. See also Junk bond; Loan.
