释义	HIV Human Immunodeficiency Virus. A fatal illness caused by the retrovirus HIV which is transmitted through sexual fluids and blood. The disease reduces immunity by destroying the white cells ultimately causing death. The focus is now on the whole HIV infection rather than the later symptomatic stages of the disease which is known as AIDS. The Disability Discrimination Ordinance applies to person who is HIV-positive or has acquired immune deficiency syndrome (commonly known as ‘AIDS’): Disability Discrimination Ordinance (Cap 487) s 61(2).
