| 释义 | 平等機會 A principle that requires all persons to be entitled to the same opportunities and not be subjected to different treatment only because of the unnecessary, irrelevant barriers, like age, sex, race. In Hong Kong, equal opportunity is ensured under the Family Status Discrimination (Cap 527), Sex Discrimination Ordinance (Cap 480) and Disability Discrimination Ordinance (Cap 487). The Equal Opportunity Commission was established in 1996 under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, in order to work towards the elimination of discrimination and sexual harassment, to promote equality of opportunity between men and women generally, in the case of any act alleged to be unlawful to encourage persons who are concerned with the matter to which the act relates to effect a settlement of the matter by conciliation, to keep under review the working of statutory provisions controlling discrimination, and perform such other statutory functions as are imposed on it: Sex Discrimination Ordinance (Cap 480) s 64; Disability Discrimination Ordinance (Cap 487) s 62; Family Status Discrimination Ordinance (Cap 527) s 44.
