释义 | 裁判法院 A court comprised of magistrates, empowered to hear and determine civil and criminal matters by way of summary procedure. Magistrates’ courts have been established under the Basic Law on the formal basis: Basic Law art 81. Magistrates’ courts are courts of limited jurisdiction and are therefore confined to the powers conferred upon them by the Magistrates Ordinance (Cap 227). Nevertheless they are seized of inherent jurisdiction to regulate their own procedure in accordance with the principles of natural justice and have conditional power to stay proceedings that are an abuse of process.
