释义 | 太平紳士 Abbr – JP. A person appointed to be a justice of the peace under the Justices of the Peace Ordinance (Cap 510) and performing the functions of (1) visiting any custodial institution or detained person; (2) taking and receiving declarations and performing any other function under the Oaths and Declarations Ordinance (Cap 11); and (3) serving as a member of any advisory panel, in the case of a justice of the peace other than a public servant or New Territories justice of the peace: Justices of the Peace Ordinance (Cap 510) ss 2, 5(1). Justices of the peace are appointed by the Chief Executive, who may appoint any person holding any office in the public service and any other person, provided in either case, he considers the person to be fit and proper for such appointment: Justices of the Peace Ordinance (Cap 510) s 3 (1)(a). He shall perform such other functions as may be imposed on him from time to time by the Chief Executive: s 5(3).
