释义 | 要項上的更改 1. A substantial or significant alteration to a document made by one party without the consent of the other. To be material, the alteration should affect the contractual obligations of the parties to it: Ellesmere Brewery Co v Cooper [1896] 1 QB 75. In such a case, the contract is discharged (by operation of law) to the extent that the party making the unauthorised alteration cannot maintain an action based on the contract: Bishop of Credition v Bishop of Exeter [1905] 2 Ch 455. 2. In regard to a bill of exchange, any alteration to the date, the sum payable, or the place of payment of the bill, or, where the bill has been accepted generally, the addition of a place of payment without the consent of the acceptor: Bills of Exchange (Cap 19) s 64 (2).
