A person travelling on foot along the highway. Pedestrians need not be in motion. They may be on rollerskates, iceskates, stilts, or crutches. Traffic regulations direct where pedestrians should travel along the highway, where they should cross the carriageway, and when drivers must give priority to pedestrians. Pedestrians must take care for their own safety when travelling along the highway. Pedestrians using a crossing are obliged to keep a proper lookout and if they do not do so they may be guilty of contributory negligence: Lau Tak Lung v Ngan Guen Min & Anor [1998] 2 HKC 75; Lee Hon Cheung (An Infant) v Chan Tang Kai Lan & Anor [1995] 3 HKC 640. A pedestrian can cross a highway wherever he chooses to do so, provided he takes reasonable care for his own safety: Li Chu Ying v Ho Cheung Shing & Anor [2000] 4 HKC 250.
