单词 Contemptuous damages
In defamation law, a very low sum of damages, awarded by a jury to a plaintiff who has made out his or her case but whose conduct warrants no greater award. Contemptuous damages are tantamount to an expression of disapproval of, or contempt for, the plaintiff: Dering v Uris [1964] 2 All ER 160, 2 QB 669. Contemptuous damages should not be awarded where the right of personal liberty has been interfered with: Kuchenmeister v The Home Office [1958] 1 QB 496, 1 All ER 485. See also Damages; Defamation.
Kuchenmeister v The Home Office [1958] 1 QB 496, 1 All ER 485。另見 Damages; Defamation。
