释义 | 毗連區 A strip of coastal water immediately adjacent to the territorial sea of a coastal state. The contiguous zone starts at 12 nautical miles from the baseline used for measuring the territorial sea, and extends to 24 nautical miles from the same baseline. The first 12 nautical miles of a coastal state’s marine jurisdiction is the territorial sea. The next 12 miles is the contiguous zone, which overlaps with the exclusive economic zone. Also known as ‘adjacent zone’. The Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Territorial Sea and Contiguous Zone arts 3, 4, applies to Hong Kong by virtue of the Basic Law art 18; United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 art 33(2).
