释义 | 高利貸 The act or practice of lending money at an exorbitant or illegal rate of interest. In Hong Kong, the maximum effective rate of interest on any loan is 60 per cent per annum: Money Lenders Ordinance (Cap 163) s 24. Banking Institutions are exempt from any provisions of the Money Lenders Ordinance and thus the statutory maximum effective rate of interest does not apply to such institutions. However, The Code of Banking Practice endorsed by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority states clearly that a bank should not charge an extortionate interest rate: The Code of Banking Practice 12.3.
