释义 | 英國倫敦勞合社 A society of individual underwriters incorporated under the Lloyd’s Act in the United Kingdom in 1871. It is not a corporation and the member underwriters, called ‘names’ are personally liable for all the insurance risks. It is usual for members to associate themselves for business purposes into syndicates. Membership is granted to those who meet the financial requirements of the Council of Lloyd’s. Protection for the assured is ensured by the requirement of a deposit by way of security of a minimum sum where both marine and non-marine business is to be transacted. In addition to its primary function as an incorporated society of individual underwriters, Lloyd’s also provides support, services and information incidental to shipping and insurance: Halsbury’s Laws of England (4th Ed) Vol 25 para 21. Lloyd’s is not required to be appointed as an insurance agent or authorised as an insurance broker: Insurance Companies Ordinance (Cap 41) s 78(1).
