释义	曾祖父母／外曾祖父母 The parent of a grandparent of a child. In family law, a person who is not the parent of a child may become a guardian and may thereby have custody of the child upon appointment of the parent of the minor or appointment of the court: Guardianship of Minors Ordinance (Cap 13), ss 6, 7, 11. Accordingly, great-grandparents may apply for the guardianship of their great-grandchildren. However, the likely age of a great-grandparent may mean that he or she would have difficulty providing adequate care for a child thus affecting the welfare of the child. In succession, there is no direct provision for great-grandparents of an intestate deceased. However, if a great-grandparent could show that he or she had been wholly or substantially maintained by the deceased immediately before the deceased’s death, then he or she would be eligible to make a claim on the estate: Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Ordinance (Cap 481) s 3(1)(viii).
