Multiple personality |
A dissociative disorder in which one person develops two or more distinct personalities. Each personality is a fully integrated and complex unit with unique memories, behaviour patterns and social relationships that determine the nature of the individual’s acts when that personality is dominant. Transition from one personality to another is sudden and often associated with psychological stress. The existence of multiple personality may be relevant to the culpability or criminal responsibility of an offender, since evidence of the disorder may be relevant to establishing whether the offender was suffering from a mental disorder at the time they committed the offence. See also Disease of the mind; Insanity; Mental disorder; Personality disorder. Disease of the mind; Insanity; Mental disorder; Personality disorder。 |
