释义	下身癱瘓 Paralysis of the lower part of the body and limb due to such causes as a fractured spine an damage to the spinal cord, tract degeneration in the spinal cord or polyneuritis: Ng Kwok Wing v Lau Ping Kwan & Ors [1996] 4 HKC 667. Damages for paraplegia are recoverable through employees’ compensation scheme and/or common law action in personal injuries: Employees’ Compensation Ordinance (Cap 282) s 5. Paraplegia also causes the loss of voluntary control of organs supplied by nervous originating from the lumbar spinal cord. It is a common injury from car and industrial accidents. In assessing damages under the head of Pain and Suffering and Loss of Amenities, it can be categorised in the upper end of the gross disability category: Leung On & Anor v Chan Pui Ki (An Infant) [1996] 2 HKC 565.
