单词 Legal contingent remainder
At common law, a future interest in land that is a remainder limited so as to depend on an event or condition which may never happen or be performed, or which may not happen or be performed until after determination of the preceding estate: Halsbury’s Laws of Hong Kong, Vol 16, Land [230.0067], [230.0068], [230.0070]. For example, A could grant land to B for life with remainder to C when he marries. In the circumstances, there may be a period when no one was entitled to an interest in possession if C was not married at B’s death. The estate would then be left in abeyance until C married. If C failed to marry, the estate would revert to A: Sarah Neild Hong Kong Land Law (2nd Ed, Longman, 1997) Ch 8 p 187. See also Common law; Estate; Future interest; Life tenant; Remainder; Vest.
另見 Common law; Estate; Future interest; Life tenant; Remainder; Vest。
