释义	合理辯解 An honest belief on reasonable grounds that the facts were such so as to be a complete answer to the charge and that the conduct of the accused would have been lawful and not contrary to law: R v Li Wing Tat [1991] 1 HKLR 731. The accused must establish the facts upon which he relies for such an excuse on the balance of probabilities: R v Lai Chi Keung [1996] 4 HKC 168. What is capable of constituting a reasonable excuse in any particular statute depends on the purpose of and statutory context in which the defence applies: Wong Pooh Yin v Public Prosecutor [1955] AC 93, [1954] 3 All ER 31 (PC). Possession of something in respect of which possession is prohibited in the absence of a reasonable excuse, for an innocent purpose or for a purpose connected with preventing or detecting crime, may constitute a reasonable excuse: R v Chen Yik Yan [1983] 2 HKC 192 (CA). Duress or necessity may also constitute a lawful excuse: R v Leung Wing Cheung [1958] HKLR 49 (FC).
