| 释义 | 委聘大律師代表在被告席上的被告 The provision of legal representation to an accused person, who cannot afford representation, by a barrister appointed by the court. The barrister was appointed to act for the accused when the accused appeared before the court in the dock and hence the name given to such representation. This method of providing legal representation to an indigent accused has been largely replaced by the provision of government-funded legal aid schemes.
