释义 | 口蹄病/手足口病 A viral infection of cattle, swine, sheep and goats. It is extremely contagious and is characterised by the formation of blisters and lesions in the mouth and on the feet. It includes vesicular disease, vesicular exanthema and vesicular stomatitis. Afflicted animals do not eat. In its malignant form the disease affects the heart muscle, causing rapid death. The disease is guarded against by strict quarantine of imported animals. In Hong Kong, ‘foot and mouth disease’ is classified as one of the diseases under the Public Health (Animals and Birds) Ordinance (Cap 139). Animal affected with foot and mouth disease will be slaughtered and the owner of which is entitled to compensation paid out of the public revenue for any animal or bird slaughtered by order of the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation and the compensation shall be its full value immediately before it became so affected: s 6(1)(c).
