释义 | 典當 1.A form of bailment or pledge by which possession (not ownership) of goods is transferred by a borrower (the pawnor or pledgor) to a lender (the pawnee or pledgee) as security for a loan: Coggs v Bernard (1703) 2 Ld Raym 909, 92 ER 107. It is normally a condition of the loan that the lender has the right to sell the pawned goods if the loan is not repaid within a specified time: the Odessa [1916] 1 AC 145. The activities of pawnbrokers are governed by the Pawnbrokers Ordinance (Cap 166). 2. A thing pawned.
